True Victorian to Art Nouveau Brooch with Opal-like Stone with Old Mine Cut Glass Stone Accents

$48.00

Vintage Jewelry: True Victorian to Art Nouveau Brass or Gold Plated Brooch that has a large oval cabochon opal-like stone with nice play of color. It is not true opal but looks really pretty. The stone is about 3/4" long and 1/3" wide and set with many prongs. There are 6 small old mine cut glass faux diamonds accenting the piece as well. Chatham opals came to be in the first decade of the 1900s however this is not a Chatham opal - rather than a lab created this is more of an imitation opal - it does appear to be glass - it is not plastic. The piece has some typical vintage wear but it is over 100 years old so that is expected. It is very appealing with the play of colors that are so easily seen and the design which to me is more art nouveau than Victorian but I am not an expert in that department and it is my best guess. The brooch is 1-1/8" wide and just under 1" tall. It has a c-clasp, the pin is within the framework of the brooch and does not extend beyond. Good condition. See photos. Lot Loc. No.: WIN.3.5.16.5.
